When special education teacher Angie White started teaching in Loudoun this August, she never expected to be recognized for her work. She says she was “just going about my merry way and just doing what I’m expected to. You know, what I’m passionate about.”
LCHS 1954 X page announced on January 13, 2025, that teacher Angie’s was recognized for her “professionalism and positivity supporting students.” The SHINE award stands for Spotlighting Heroes in Education and recognizes professionals who go above and beyond their job.
She found that she was chosen for an email from someone over the Shine program and that testing coordinator Kim Burkey had submitted her name for the award. “I was shocked. But it made me feel good to be noticed,” White said.
Berkey praised White in her nomination. “I chose Ms. White because she’s one of our teachers who not only cares very deeply about the success of her students but also has great attention to detail,” Berkey said. “She always has a smile on her face and is always looking for a positive way to work with her colleagues to impact students.” She also said that she greatly appreciates working with her because of her positive energy and her willingness to go the extra mile.
