Senior Adam Toland has been reviewing movies since 2022, but he never expected that hobby to lead to his name being mentioned at the Oscars.
While scrolling on Instagram, Toland came across a Letterboxd Instagram about the new “Dune: Part Two” movie. They were reading off comments from Dune movie fans about “Dune: Part Two.” Senior Adam Toland, who loves the movie, thought nothing about the video and watched it. To his surprise, the video revealed that at the Oscars after show, Toland’s Instagram comment got featured, and he heard his name being read by the announcers on live television on the night of the Oscars.
Letterboxd is a website used for movie reviews, which Toland has been using to review films. “I just review movies out there every single day, and I’ve been using it since 2022 and ever since I’ve been addicted,” Toland said.
Using Letterboxd, Toland reviews countless movies online, but his comment suggested that “Dune: Part Two” is the greatest film, period. ¨The reason I think ‘Dune’ is the best movie is because of the acting, directing, and cinematography. The acting from everyone is perfectly and just beautifully done. Same with the directing and Cinematography¨ Toland said.

“Dune: Part Two” was released on March 1, 2024 and is based off of the 1965 science fiction novel by Frank Herbert. Despite the film being released less than a year before the Oscars, Toland had watched the movie 56 times by the time he made his comment. Toland didn’t just watch Dune on a television but rather eight times in theaters, more than 35 times on his own home television, 12 times on his phone, and even one time on his Apple watch.
At the Oscars, the film earned Best Sound and Best Achievement in Visual Effects and was nominated for three other awards.
Toland was completely surprised when he found out his comment was featured at the Oscars.
“I didn’t know anything about it. Whenever I logged into Instagram next I just saw a video,” Toland said. “It’s just a Dune sound team. I wasn’t freaking out at all.” It wasn’t until he watched the video that he saw his comment.
“Yeah, that hit me,” Toland said.
Toland doesn’t just watch movies but also owns a film business, Blazeproductions. If anyone needs help with any photos or videos, he can help them.
Toland is going to college to focus on film production next year.
Toland’s comment, which became famous overnight, reads:
“Alright, I’ve seen the movie 59 times. It’s the best of 2024 and best of all time to me. I love it! Thanks to Denis he’s the goat he was snubbed though.”
