Have you noticed anything different? Our school recently finished a well-needed renovation to the student bathrooms. Completed over the summer break, the bathroom renovations are part of ongoing updates to the school, which have included new gyms and new athletic fields in past years.
The new bathrooms are important because they help promote students’ well-being, cleanliness, school color spirit, unity, and comfort.
The renovations include new hinges/doors, new tile, new automatic toilets, new lights, and new mirrors. Even the students are helping out by putting calendars and posters on the doors and stall walls to inform students about sports events, band events, and more.
Before the updates, it was not uncommon to find broken locks, sinks not working, stalls with very low privacy walls, dirty toilets, and dated tiling.
Students approve of the changes. “The bathrooms are much cleaner [er] and bright[er], and it is nice to have the taller stall walls because it provides more privacy,” sophomore Ermina Saleem said.
“Compared to Simpson the bathrooms here are much better,” freshman Justin Goodhart said.
Considering that bathroom renovations can take 3-4 weeks and make the facility unusable during that time, staff decided to do the work over the summer when students were gone. In total, 10 newly updated bathrooms were ready for use at the beginning of the school year.
A special thanks to Dr. Luttrell and the school staff for making these improvements and for maintaining them with daily cleanings and upkeep. Hopefully, the students will treat the new bathrooms with great care and do their part by throwing away trash and keeping the walls clean.
